Building upon the series of classes offered from January through March, The Sunrise Center for Excellence in Chess is offering chess instruction for students in East Sunrise on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. The class is open to all students in Grades 4-12. On April 3, we will have a review lesson and playing time. Then beginning April 10, NSCF Senior Instructor Chris Goldthorpe will offer a 8-week class featuring lectures, chess problem-solving, fun games and competitive play. The class is free but you must be pre-registered.

Please note: This is a class. You are signing up for 8 classes running from April 10 through May 29. Please do not sign up if you cannot reasonably make this commitment. We understand sometimes something will happen that changes this, but the classes are built so that there is a progression to the instruction so that the kids actually see improvement in their chess ability and in their understanding of how chess relates to other academics and life activities.

If you just want to play chess as a fun activity, come to the Open Play, also at Village Multipurpose Center (City Park Gym), on Saturdays from 12:30 to 2:00 pm.

These classes are free thanks to the generous support of The City of Sunrise and the Sunrise Police Department.
