OUR LEVEL 1 WORKSHOP IS BEING ADAPTED FOR VETERANS!
Instructor: Chris Goldthorpe
Chess is a great activity for: • Social connection and recreation • Therapy (including PTSD) • Mentoring young people
Even if you’ve never played chess, this one-day workshop will teach you the basics from rules and piece movement to beginning tactics. The workshop will also prepare you to use chess as a mentoring tool.
The workshop includes NSCF’s curriculum outline, referral to grade appropriate curriculum resources, and on-going training online (individual accounts set-up instructions are supplied with your workshop materials).
Our goal is to provide regular opportunities for veterans to play chess as a recreational activity, to assist those who want to use chess to engage other veterans and for those who might like to mentor young people in our school and community programs.
Normally $200, this class is generously sponsored by the City of Sunrise. Presented in partnership with the American Legion, Sunrise Post 365, and Mission United.
Note: This same class is being offered at Mission United on Thursday, September 21. Please do not register for both classes. Space is limited.
