Open to students from The National Scholastic Chess Foundation and The Sunrise Chess Center for Excellence in Chess, this is a free online tournament using Lichess. The tournament is in Arena format, which means players do not have to wait between rounds; the system does pairings based upon who else has finished play. The tournament begins at 12 noon.
ONE SECTION ONLY: Players will play for 120 minutes: Game 15+2 sec. FREE GAME ANALYSIS: Game analysis for one hour after the tournament beginning at approximately 1:30 PM
You must register here AND also have a Lichess account. On Saturday afternoon, all registrants will be sent the entry code/information for the tournament. Details on how an arena tournament are available here: https://lichess.org/tournament/help?system=arena
No trophies, just bragging rights PLUS…
Top score will receive a Forward Chess digital copy of Sunil Weeramantry's book "Best Lessons of a Chess Coach" or a digital copy of "Great Moves: Learning Chess Through History", both from Mongoose Press.
Top Elementary student (K-5) and top K-2 grade student will also each receive a Chess Tactics Workbook by Al Woolum, which is a great collection of puzzles to help players improve their game.
ZOOM Info: The TD will be on zoom for 30 minutes prior to the start of the tournament to help anyone with set-up. You do not need to remain on ZOOM during the tournament, you can just log back in at the end of play
NEXT; If players would like to have their games analyzed, we will have one of our Master Chess Teachers on zoom at 2 pm to spend an hour or so going over games. We will go through as many as we can fit in, and even if your game is not selected, you can listen in and learn!
This event is made possible in part by the City of Sunrise.
Good luck everyone and have fun!
