The Sunrise Center for Excellence in Chess is once again offering chess instruction for students on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Sunrise/Dan Pearl branch library. The class is open to all students grades 4-12 and to all levels of play. NSCF Senior Instructor Robert McKenzie, will offer an 8-week class featuring lectures, chess problem-solving, fun games and competitive play. The class is free but you must be pre-registered. Beginners through nationally ranked children will find appropriate challenges at their level of play and the opportunity to improve their game.
Please note: This is a class. You are signing up for 8 classes running from September 18 through November 6. Please do not sign up if you cannot reasonably make this commitment. We understand sometimes something will happen that changes this, but the classes are built so that there is a progression to the instruction so that the kids actually see improvement in their chess ability and in their understanding of how chess relates to other academics and life activities.
If you just want to play chess as a fun activity, come to the Open Play, offered at the Sunrise Civic Center every Saturday morning from 10 am to 12 noon where all are welcome and no registration is required. Thank you.
These classes are free thanks to the generous support of The City of Sunrise.
