Notice for Our Broward Education Foundation Workshop Attendees

After your first workshops you will receive an email with a link to be enrolled in one of our Teachers online classes in ChessMagnetSchool.com. While the screen shows you signing up for a 30-day membership, your fee is actually paid for an entire year.

To use ChessMagnetSchool for your own study, first log-in to your account. Then Select ENTER THE STUDENT TRAINING ROOM. You click Start and the system will automatically begin to feed you puzzles to solve. You can do these or pick a selection from the tabs. Under Topics you select your chess ability level and then the topic. CMS also offers two tests. THESE ARE NOT THE NSCF TESTS. Again, we have purchased your membership on this site so you can continue to improve at your own pace long after the workshops are over. Please take advantage.

NSCF Online Tests

The teacher tests required for NSCF certification after each workshop are also hosted on ChessMagnetSchool.com. Details are sent by email after the workshops.

Additional Resources for Teachers

Our Book Recommendations – With so many chess books available, our NSCF Recommended Books page can help you in selecting beginning and intermediate books for different ages/grades.

A quick Checkmates Puzzle page Bill Cornwall refers to in his workshops is now available here PLUS we've added the Shirov-Lapinski Game Lesson also used in his workshops.

Instructional resources: Sunil was featured in Concordia University's School of Education newsmagazine with an article that provides a brief overview of some specific benefits of chess in education.

Report on the NSCF in Broward County – The NSCF and Broward Education Foundation are pleased to present a short summary report on the Next Move Chess Initiative from June 2015 through December 2016.  You can also click here to read the October 2014 to May 2015 report.

Want to start a chess club? A GUIDE TO SCHOLASTIC CHESS was created to help teachers and scholastic chess organizers who wish to begin, improve, or strengthen their school chess program. It covers how to organize a school chess club, run tournaments, keep interest high, and generate parental and public support. Courtesy of Dewaine Barber and American Chess Equipment.

For more in-depth information on starting an after school program, we recommend you check out the many resources offered by our friends at the After School Alliance. One of their publications is the very comprehensive Beyond the Bell (PDF) Startup Guide. We also recommend you connect with the Florida After School Network.
