A key focus of The Sunrise Center for Excellence in Chess is offering chess classes for children in partnership with community programs. Recognizing that learning happens outside of school too, these fun and interactive chess classes are offered by sending our certified teachers to libraries, rec centers, and summer programs.
We currently have programs running at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center and will begin a new series at the Dan Pearl/Sunrise Branch Library in October.
Click on our Events section for specific times and registration details. All classes are free thanks to our generous sponsors.
Of course, our goal is first and foremost to train people in the community to introduce chess, whether in their classrooms or in community programs. Trainings are offered as intensive workshops (there are 3 now, and over 400 people have completed at least workshop #1). Visit out Teacher Training page for more details.
